However simply saving the data we know has low effective values. Therefore, the Seoul Metropolitan Government categorizes data and then accumulates and analyzes it in order to use it as big data, which provides tremendous values beyond imagination.
그러나 우리가 알고 있는 이 데이터를 단순히 저장 상태로만 가지고 있는 것은 그 효용가치가 낮다고 할 수 있습니다. 그로 인해 서울시는 이 데이터를 분류에 따라 축적, 분석하여 빅데이터로 활용화 함으로써,  상상 초월의 가치를 제공하고 있습니다.

What is Seoul Open Data Plaza?

As mentioned before, Seoul Open Data refers to public data that digitizes and keeps a wide range of information closely related to Seoul citizens’ life such as transportation, culture, and space.
앞서 말한 바와 같이 서울 열린데이터란 서울 시민의 생활과 밀접한 교통, 문화, 공간 등의 다양한 자료들을 데이터화하여 보관하고 있는 공공 데이터를 말합니다.
In such public data, there is abundant useful data that can be utilized by citizens, and Seoul Open Data Plaza is an integrated window of public data. It opens such information to citizens so that they can create new values. That’s the role of Seoul Open Data Plaza.
그리고 이 같은 공공데이터 중에는 시민이 직접 활용하면 더욱 유용한 것들이 많이 있는데 이런 공공데이터를 모아 놓은 데이터 통합창구로써 시민들에게 개방하여 새로운 가치를 창출할 수 있도록 만든 공간이 바로 서울 열린데이터광장입니다.
In fact, the SMG’s public data which had high social and economical values was not automatically open to the public in the past, restricting Seoul citizens’ right to know.
사실 과거 사회적·경제적 가치가 높은 서울시의 공공데이터는 자동으로 공개되지 못해 시민의 알 권리에 제한적이었습니다.
Due to restricted information, the users of Seoul Bus Application complained about increasing inconvenience, while citizens filed more and more civil complaints. As a result, the need to disclose the public data to citizens arose.
그리고 이처럼 차단된 일부 정보로 인해 서울 버스 애플리케이션 사용자들의 불편 증가를 비롯해 여러 민원이 발생하며, 공공데이터를 시민에게 개방하자는 필요성이 대두 되었습니다.

In May 2012, Seoul Open Data Plaza first launched its service. Let’s take a look at some of its elements and features.
2012년 5월 첫 서비스를 시작한 열린데이터광장은 몇 가지 주요 구성 및 기능으로 나눠 살펴 볼 수 있습니다.
Using Open API, users can develop application programs and services of public data. Open Data Catalog integrates and provides public data with privately and individually owned data. Furthermore, you can see Seoul Statistics DB in a variety of forms using Seoul Statistics Service. Lastly, you can read publications related to statistics of Seoul well-organized by theme or time.
개방된 공공데이터를 API를 이용하여 응용프로그램과 서비스를 직접 개발할 수 있는 OPEN API, 공공 데이터와 함께 민간 및 개인이 보유한 데이터를 통합하여 제공하는 개방데이터 카달로그, 서울통계 DB를 다양한 형태로 확인하는 서울통계서비스, 서울통계간행물 통계 자료를 테마별, 기간별로 정리한 통계간행물이 바로 그것입니다.

조금 더 자세히 살펴볼까요? 서울시는 서울 오픈 데이터 광장 웹사이트를 통해 교통과 환경을 비롯한 여러 가지 분야를 12개 유형으로 나누어 공공데이터를 제공하고 있는데요.
Data sets of 12 themes are provided in 7 different forms: Open API, Sheet, Chart, Map, LOD, File, and Link.
이렇게 12개 주제별의 자료 집합 즉 데이터셋을 OpenAPI, Sheet, Chart, Map, LOD, File, Link라는 7개 유형의 형태로 제공하고 있습니다.
Furthermore, the Open Data Plaza supports related keyword searches, which extends and strengthens its search function. You can search more conveniently using a variety of channels such as PCs, cell phones, and tablet PCs.
뿐만 아니라 열린데이터광장은 PC, 모바일, 태블릿 등 채널과의 연관 검색어 지원으로 검색기능이 확장, 강화되어 보다 편리한 검색이 가능합니다.
Seoul Open Data Plaza provides data visualization service. Data visualization service invokes interests and enhances communicability by making data intuitive and adding visual effects such as diagrams and graphs for difficult and complicated data.
그리고 데이터 시각화 서비스를 제공하고 있는데요. 다시 말해 보기 힘들고 복잡한 데이터에 도표나 그래프 등 시각적 효과를 주어 직관적으로 보기 쉽게 가공하여, 재미와 전달력을 강화시켰다 할 수 있습니다.
In addition to sheets you can see immediately via the website, data visualization service provides charts containing statistical data and maps showing coordinate information. Lastly, infographics boast outstanding legibility.
현재 웹에서 즉시 확인이 가능한 시트 형태를 비롯해 통계상 데이터를 표현하는 차트 형태, 좌표정보까지 포함된 맵 형태 등을 제공하고 있으며 또 다른 형태로 가독성을 높인 인포그래픽 등도 데이터시각화 서비스라 할 수 있습니다.
Seoul Open Data Plaza provides Catalog Service that can maximize the utilization of public data by sharing and searching scattered data. Data owned by public organizations, businesses, and individuals can be used for public interests.
그 외에도 서울 열린데이터는 산재되어 있는 공공데이터를 공유하고 탐색하여 공공데이터의 활용을 극대화할 수 있는 카탈로그 서비스를 비롯해 공공기관과 기업, 시민 개인이 보유하고 있는 공익성 데이터로도 활용 가능합니다.
In particular, Open API can provide data directly for developers in which you can develop your own services as well. This service is another link between citizens and organizations for information sharing.
특히 오픈API는 데이터를 개발자 등에게 직접 제공하는 형태로 자신만의 서비스 개발이 가능 한데요. 이는 일반 시민들과 기관간의 정보공유를 할 수 있는 또 다른 연결고리라고도 할 수 있습니다.
Based on quality public data closely related to citizens’ daily life including market infrastructure information and real-time subway data, citizens can use and participate in a variety of services such as Seoul Subway infographics, Code Namu Hackathon Event, and Seoul Mom application. Seoul Open Data Plaza provides a user gallery based on citizens’ voluntary participation, communication and a culture of sharing.
그 밖에도 서울 열린데이터광장에는 장터 기반시설 정보나 지하철 실시간 데이터와 같은 시민들의 일상생활과 밀접한 정보들이 수집된 양질의 공공데이터를 이용하여 서울지하철이라는 인포그래픽과 코드나무 해커톤 행사, 서울맘 앱 등 시민들의 자발적 참여와 소통 그리고 공유의 나눔 문화가 만들어지는 활용갤러리도 제공하고 있습니다.
 
The Seoul Metropolitan Government has been trying to improve its services since December 26, 2017. In particular, many users have been complaining that it was difficult to find public data at one place. As part of this project, the SMG integrated Open Data Plaza and Seoul Statistics Website and added real-time data to its services to extend and improve its services.
서울시는 2017년 12월 26일부터 기존 공공데이터가 한곳에서 찾기 힘들다는 점을 개선하고자 그 일환으로 열린데이터광장과 서울통계 홈페이지와 통합하고, 실시간 데이터를 연계하여 개선하는 등 데이터 서비스를 확대 개편하였습니다.
After the service integration, data services increased from 8,840 types in 10 fields to 11,136 types in 12 fields. Now you can see statistics and source data at one place, which are the basis of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
이번 통합으로 데이터서비스는 10개 분야 8,840종에서 12개 분야 11,136종이 되었고, 4차 산업의 기반이 되는 통계와 원천 데이터를 한곳에서 볼 수 있게 되었습니다.
