Seoul Declaration on open geospatial technology and data
- Proclamation of the Seoul Declaration at FOSS4G Asia 2023
- International cooperation starting January with the UN, OSGeo, etc
The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) proclaimed the Seoul Declaration at FOSS4G Asia 2023 on Fri, Dec.1, expressing its plans to establish a consultative body for international cooperation on open geospatial technology and data in Asia and lead full-fledged efforts starting in January 2024.
Although the city possesses excellent geospatial technology and data, it faced limited international activities due to the lack of international cooperation. To overcome such a limit, Seoul made active efforts to hold the FOSS4G Asia 2023, and successfully hosted the international conference with over 600 participants from 27 countries in November, serving as a global venue to promote the city’s geospatial technology and data.
In the future, the city will select promising areas for cooperation with the UN Open GIS Initiative, Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo), and the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), to lead as a hub for international cooperation on open geospatial technology and data with international organizations and institutions.
