The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) announced that it welcomed over 40 C-level executives from Brazil who visited Seoul City Hall on May 22 through cooperation with the Embassy of Brazil.

The purpose of their visit was to develop creative minds, and Seoul served to enhance their understanding on advanced smart city policies.

The increase in the number of visitors coming from overseas to benchmark Seoul as an advanced example of a smart city is leading to Seoul’s global recognition as a smart city.

For reference, Seoul has won the Smart City of the Year award at the Smart City Expo World Congress 2022 in Barcelona, being recognized for its “partnering with the digitally vulnerable” strategy, and Metaverse Seoul has been the only one selected from the public sector as part of Time’s “200 Best Inventions of 2022.”

Seoul has become a popular destination for benchmarking smart city policies including ICT and infrastructure by overseas institutions and enterprises. This year, it was visited by delegations from Japan, Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, United States, Finland, and Brazil, showing their particular interest in Seoul’s smart city policies and initiatives, including Metaverse Seoul. Delegations from the University of Southern California (USC) as well as Astana, Kazakhstan also visited Seoul in May, highly evaluating the capital as a smart city. Seoul’s leading smart city policy has also caught the attention of overseas media outlets. The innovation of Seoul for applying the metaverse in the public area for the first time in the world has been highly recognized and covered in depth in many channels.

Singapore’s Channel NewsAsia, the largest news channel of Southeast Asia, has covered Seoul for its outstanding policy, which will be aired in 29 countries in all parts of Southeast Asia and Australia.

Seoul was also recognized by McKinsey & Company, ThoughtLab, Radiotelevisione italiana (RAI), and other overseas media outlet and think tanks.

Seoul is confident that its smart city policy is second-to-none in the world and revealed that it will give its all for the development and advancement of Seoul as a smart city.
