The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) will expand its citywide smart security program starting this month, supporting single-person households to enhance crime prevention, such as home invasion and stalking.

Targeting single-person households, the city will distribute smart security packages that comprise a smart doorbell for users to check their front doors via live footage using their mobile phone, and an indoor security camera for users to check the situation of their home when they are out.

This program was previously limited to low rent single-person households, but now the city has expanded to cover all single-person households starting this year.

Moreover, the city has also included two bonus essential items in the package, which include a voice recognition emergency bell and a digital door lock, for reinforced crime prevention. By distributing voice recognition emergency bells to victims of stalking, which was previously distributed only to single-merchant stores operated by females, users can immediately report emergency situations to the CCTV control center of a local district office and enable the auto-lock function of the digital door lock to lock up their store. Priority will be given to stores that have been victims of crime as well as stores located in crime-prone areas and small businesses.

Those who wish to apply can download the application form from the website of their local district office and submit via email along with the necessary documents.

Seoul is making efforts to reinforce the city’s urban safety by expanding its distribution of smart security equipment to vulnerable groups, such as victims of stalking, single-person households and small businesses, so that citizens can live without worries of crime.
