The Seoul Institute internship program with 10 international public officials
- The 2nd SI Global Ambassador internship program to be held over three weeks starting Mon, Jan. 15 with international participants from 10 countries, including Ghana and Kenya
- Effective transfer of policy research knowledge during the short period of time through support for on-site visits and mentoring
The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) announced that The Seoul Institute is conducting the 2nd SI Global Ambassador internship program over the course of three weeks starting Mon, Jan. 15 to Fri, Feb. 2, 2024 with 10 public officials from international cities that are currently completing their Master of Urban Administration and Planning at the University of Seoul International School of Urban Sciences.
Following the first iteration of the program in Jan. 2023, the SI Global Ambassador internship program features 10 public officials from 10 overseas countries participating as “ambassadors” to strengthen their practical capabilities to learn about The Seoul’s Institute’s research and the city’s top policies.
Participants in this year’s internship include officials leading their respective country’s urban management and development, including from Ghana’s Ministry of Works and Housing, Kenya’s Nakuru city government, and Zambia’s provincial government and construction department. These participants charged with urban management and development for their respective countries will explore a variety of Seoul’s policies related to transportation, digital administration, the environment, and urban planning through a working group.
Over the course of the three weeks learning about the features of the city’s urban development and participating in a Seoul 2040 Comprehensive Plan workshop, participants will focus on understanding Seoul’s major policies, case studies of successful policies, theory-based mentoring, and excursions to research sites. At the end of the program, participants will publish a report on case studies of Seoul’s urban policies, sharing the implications broken down by each area of interest.
* The Seoul Institute connects internship participants with mentors in consideration of their field of work and interests to enable the effective transfer of research and urban policy planning knowledge during the short period of time while actively supporting opportunities for on-site visits.
