• Seoul Metropolitan Library international design contest finalist announced
• Recognized for flexible spatial composition featuring an eco-friendly roof to serve as an urban green space

The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) announced that it held a screening for the finalist of its Seoul Metropolitan Library international design competition on Tue, Dec. 12 and selected the design plan submitted by a consortium led by Sosol Architects on Sun, Dec. 17.

The library, which is to be completed by 2029, will be two and a half times the size of the Seoul Metropolitan Library and built near Cheongnyangni Station in Dongdaemun-gu (691-3 Jeonnong-dong), featuring the latest facilities and an eco-friendly roof made by using wooden elements that serves as an urban green space.

The city will sign an agreement for the architectural design next month with the goal of starting construction in the second half of 2025. Those interested can check out the project details, including the screening results of the design contest, via the city’s official website (project.seoul.go.kr).
