※ World Association of the Major Metropolises (Metropolis): An international organization established in Montreal in 1985 to address common challenges faced by cities globally, such as promoting economic growth and environmental protection as well as enhancing the quality of life.
Prioritizing “inclusive growth,” the city is expected to share and export various welfare policies designed to address urban polarization, together with smart city policies based on advanced technology as well as efficient public transportation systems.
Furthermore, the city has successfully won the bid to host the 40th anniversary conference of Metropolis in June 2025. This special four-day event will not be a conventional conference, but rather a lively festival featuring various commemorative activities and exciting programs for global cities to actively join. Seoul aims to create a vibrant and inclusive festival where global cities can gather, celebrate, and share ideas with one another.
Director Kim Gi-hyeon (New Industry Policy Bureau) attended the event, representing the city, and signed an agreement with the secretariat of Metropolis to determine the future host city for the next event.
