Votes are in: “Seoul for you” vs “Seoul, my soul”

The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) conducted a public preference survey online and offline from Dec. 28, 2022 to Jan. 31, 2023 for its city brand development project to renew its city brand that best represents Seoul for enhancing its city competitiveness to take a leap forward as a global city.

The survey saw a total of 397,721 votes—185,300 domestic votes and 212,421 international votes—polling from a shortlist of slogans that resulted in 148,466 votes for “Seoul, my soul,” 138,825 votes for “Seoul for you,” 70,395 votes for “Amazing Seoul,” and 40,035 votes for “Make it happen, Seoul.”

Based on the result of votes, domestic voters favored “Seoul for you” with a 38% majority, and international voters favored “Seoul, my soul” with a 44.2% majority, showing the difference in preference by Koreans and non-Koreans.

Accordingly, the city decided to proceed with a final round in mid-February to decide from the top two most voted slogans due to the narrow margin of 2.4% difference by 9,641 votes.

Seoul hopes that many Koreans and non-Koreans will participate again in the final round to decide on the new slogan that will serve as the city brand and face of Seoul in the future.
