Seoul to lead as an international sports city
The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) will host the 26th General Assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) at COEX Convention Center from Tue, Oct. 18 to Fri, Oct. 21 with over 1,300 in attendance from 206 countries.
The city aims to lay the groundwork for attracting large-scale international sports events by using this ANOC General Assembly as an opportunity to discuss the future of international sports in the post-pandemic era and take its first step toward becoming an international sports city through sports diplomacy.
The 26th ANOC General Assembly will kick off with the meeting of the ANOC Executive Council on Tue, Oct. 18, followed by plenary sessions to report on the main activities of ANOC and the Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (OCOG) as well as presentations on international sports trends for two days from Wed, Oct. 19 to Thu, Oct. 20. Then, the ANOC Workshop will be held on Fri, Oct. 21 to discuss various current issues in international sports.
Prior to the ANOC General Assembly, Mayor Oh Se-hoon attended the Seoul Olympic Legacy Forum held at the Seoul Olympic Parktel on Tue, Oct. 18 and signed the “MOU on the Preservation and Development of the Legacy of Large-scale International Sport Events.”
Parties that signed the MOU include the municipal governments of Seoul, Busan, Incheon and Gangwon-do, which have all hosted large-scale international sport events, along with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, the PyeongChang 2018 Legacy Foundation, the 2024 Winter Youth Olympics Organizing Committee, the Korean Sports & Olympic Committee, and the Korea Paralympic Committee.
Seoul envisions to lead as an international sports city through the 26th ANOC General Assembly and the Seoul Olympic Legacy Forum.
