Mayor Oh Se-hoon presents Seoul’s vision of digital transformation and carbon neutral to 90 cities at the World Cities Summit

Mayor Oh Se-hoon attended the World Cities Summit (WCS) held from Sun, Jul. 31 to Mon, Aug. 1 and hosted at the Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre in Singapore.
 

Mayor Oh made a presentation to the global delegation of officials and leaders, including chairs of international organizations and mayors from around 90 international cities, about Seoul as a special city of solidarity and attractive charms, discussing ways for cooperation.

Invited to speak at the WCS Mayors Forum held on Sun, Jul. 31, which was held on-site for the first time in three years, Mayor Oh gave a 30-second English presentation on the various policies of Seoul.

Mayor Oh announced Seoul’s strategies of digital transformation to bring people closer together and realizing carbon neutrality together with the international community.

Mayor Oh emphasized that digital transformation can bring people together by closing the digital divide, and introduced the city’s digital policies from the world’s first virtual municipality of Metaverse Seoul to Seoul Learn that serves to bridge the education gap as well as smart transportation policies based on advanced technologies, such as AI and big data.

Mayor Oh then introduced the city’s policy efforts to induce citizens’ voluntary participation in realizing carbon neutrality based on the characteristics of the city as a megacity, saying that we should move forward together toward reaching the goal of carbon neutrality, and requested the participation of international cities.

Moreover, it was announced that next year’s WCS Mayors Forum will be held in Seoul. To this end, Mayor Oh signed a business agreement on Sun, Jul. 31 with Hugh Lim, Director of the Centre for Liveable Cities (CLC) in Singapore, who organized this year’s WCS Mayors Forum.

At the opening ceremony of the WCS on Mon, Aug. 1, Mayor Oh introduced the blueprint for “Attractive & Solidarity Seoul” through a special speech, inviting global mayors of international cities to visit Seoul.

Following the WCS Mayors Forum, Mayor Oh visited Seoul’s PR booth at convention center with the Singaporean Minister of National Development on Sun, Jul. 31. The booth featured videos showing Seoul’s major landmarks, including Gwanghwamun and DDP, as well as an AI guide bot called CLOi and a Squid Game experience space.

In that same day, Mayor Oh also met with Mayor Michael Ludwig (Vienna, Austria) and Mayor Mihhail Kõlvart (Tallinn, Estonia) to exchange opinions on common urban issues, such as public housing and smart city policies, and discussed ways for cooperation.
