Seoul’s Public Data Usage Top 10: Subway and Environmental Data Drew the Most Attention

The Seoul Digital Foundation (SDF) released its 4th edition of the 2024 Data Issue Brief (hereinafter referred to as the ‘report’), titled ‘Seoul Public Data in Your Hand,’ on Tue, Oct. 15, detailing the current status of public data openness and utilization by the Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG).

The report includes an overview of Seoul public data (based on the Seoul Open Data Plaza), popular datasets (ranked by views, downloads, and total usage as of Sep. 30, 2024), as well as examples of public data being used in policy initiatives.

<Most Used Public Data: ‘Seoul Subway Real-Time Arrival Information’>

The most frequently accessed public data by Seoul citizens is in the ‘Transportation’ category. As of September 2024, the top three datasets based on total usage all relate to transportation, with the ‘Seoul Subway Real-Time Arrival Information’ ranking first.

Top 10 Most Used Seoul Public Data (from Sep. 1 to Sep. 30, 2024)

The SDF is using the publicly available data from the SMG to establish a basis for various policies. Two notable examples are the ‘Analysis of Priority Areas for Public WiFi Installation,’ aimed at enhancing information accessibility for Seoul citizens, and the ‘Analysis of Priority Areas for Public CCTV Installation,’ for crime prevention.
