Phnom Penh Policy : New Bus Service
The new bus service in Phnom Penh is a new public transportation service in the city which was born to ease the traffic problems such as traffic accidents, traffic congestion, and environment pollution. It saves money for people from using private vehicles and other kinds of transportation.
The number of passengers of the new public bus service are increased since it was started in September 2014. For the economic aspects, passengers are expected to save approximately 7,000 riel ($1=4,000 riel) as the new city bus charges 1,500 riel per trip while the average motor-dup (motor-taxi) fare in the same timeframe costs 8,000 riel. Students, sellers, self-employed, monks, handicaps, and old people are benefit from the new bus service which is expected to save their household finance.
There are 3 lines with 160 stops and operate by 50 buses throughout the city start from 5:00 am to 8:30 pm. According to the population of passenger’s growth day by day, the Phnom Penh city hall has planned to create more lines, buses, and more operational hours to ease for the citizens to travel in the city and especially for students who study in evening class which is ended at 8:30 pm.
