Seoul Tancheon Water Reuse Center
Seoul Tancheon Water Reuse Center

Overview

  • Site Name : Water Reuse Center in Seoul charcoal river

  • Establishment Year : 1987.12.09

  • Location: Gaepo-ro 625, Gangnam-gu, Seoul

  • Site Scale : 385,432 m2

  • Organization : Corporation Tancheon environment

Purpose

The Seoul Tancheon Water Reuse Center is a basic environmental facility, which discharges into the Han River, and treats on average 900,000 tons of water every day

One of its main goals besides producing safe and high quality drinking water is to detect and remove the residual odors left my sewage and microorganisms.  Also to deploy and maintain an environmentally friendly facility while simultaneously taking steps to improve the quality of the surrounding environment

Facilities

Water treatment process

  • The facility detects, removes, and treats water from the Han River.  The filtered water is then discharged back into the Han River.  Water is tested for precipitations of sewage contamination, microbial bacteria and then a unique filtration method is applied

  • In order to remove phosphorus components and eutrophication causing nitrogen, an advanced processing method is introduced.  The method has been evolving and enhancing and is processing at a considerable high standard as of 2013.

Sludge treatment process

  • Special equipment is used to stabilize the treatment of surplus microbial water as well as process heavy residual sewage

  • Beginning in 2011, the thermal power plant recycled the final residue by operating a sludge drying facility.  Using LNG fuel to replace the errors that occur with its own digester gas, the facility greatly reduced its energy cost

The introduction of high-efficiency malodor reducing facility

  • Using a Bio-filter system, odors that occur during the water treatment process are collected, depending on degree, in the high concentration region.

  • Low-concentration regions remove the odors through an effective microbial deodorizing method.  The process includes the use of a biological reactor

Business -friendly residents

  • The campus was designed to be people friendly; by planting promenade Ogawa trees which over almost 28 percent of the site.  The open space is used for various sports facilities, outdoor performance stages, as well as facility parking.

  • Each year organizations cooperate to support local cultural events such as “World Water Day” and “Qing Goal Cherry Blossom Festival”.

Effects

  • The Seoul Tancheon Water Reuse Center acts as a basic environmental facility in order to protect the water resources of Seoul.  Through continuous business improvements, increased effluent quality, and an rise in recycling of the final residue and aggressive digestion of gases, there has been a total reduction in operational cost and positions itself to be a environmentally-friendly

  • In addition to the public utility provided by the natural resource, the facility has also become a resident-friendly park, and is used daily for leisure activities, attracting various cultural events, and acting as an overall space to co-exist between residents.
