Much-anticipated launching of the eco-friendly Climate Card on Jan. 27
- Integration of unlimited subway, bus and bike rides with the Climate Card
The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) announced to roll out the much-anticipated Climate Card, which allows unlimited use of public transportation, on Jan. 27, 2024. The Climate Card will be the first eco-friendly farecard in the country to revolutionize transportation since the launch of the integrated metropolitan transfer system in the capital area back in 2004, which served as a standard for public transportation across the country, in response to the changes in both climate and mass transit.
The city’s Climate Card acts on three fronts—addressing climate change, providing unlimited public transportation use, and increasing convenience for the public—all through an integrated public transportation farecard. The card will be applied across various modes of public transportation, including Seoul Bike, by providing access to unlimited rides. The expected increase in public transportation convenience has been met with great anticipation.
Mayor Oh Se-hoon said, “As an unlimited public transportation card, the Climate Card is expected to take Korea one step further in public transportation policy innovation following the implementation of the integrated metropolitan transfer system. We will continue to improve these policies and services to not only to simply reduce the cost of transportation, but also address the climate crisis and the rising demand of public transportation as well as increase convenience not only for those in Seoul, but across the entire capital area.”
